Matt Nicholson was the most sought after
guide in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. They came to Red River,
New Mexico from the world over, wallets open, ready and willing to follow
his every lead in order to take that one-in-a-thousand fly fishing or bow
hunting prize. He’d been at it for 33 years, since he was 16, happy
to bag their money, their wives, daughters, or both – sometimes at the
same time. He believed in entertainment for the whole family.
It was just good marketing strategy. |
He was in the midst of just that kind of marketing
in the Bull o’ the Woods bar when a face on the widescreen caught his eye.
He turned from the hot, blonde mother/daughter combo and stared up at the
widescreen. The name “Fifth Reality” scrolled across the bottom of
the screen, followed by the words, “The SOLUS Foundation.” But the
Paragon City hero that was making Rikti into pincushions with a sweet compound
bow and high-tech arrows was quite obviously himself.
Ten minutes later, he was booking a flight.
Alternate realities happened to other people, not him, and having another
*him* making headlines was just bad for business.
