On November 7, 2002, the last surviving members of the SOLUS Collective, fighting with Statesman and the Vanguard in the last days of the Rikti war, fell in battle while protecting a hospital evacuation from an armada of Rikti soldiers.  At approximately 2:37 p.m. on that day, the last six members of a super group founded by an alien named 'Lazon,' a group once two-dozen strong, held off the invaders as the temporary  M.A.S.H. skyscraper they were defending fell from the sky. 

In Liberty Sector, Captain Superior, Penthouse, Energy Blastion, Empathy, Billy Bad Boy, and Commissioner G fell in that battle, though three of them returned miraculously in later years.  In the Pinnacle Sector, Lazon, Captain Superior, Energy Blastion, Empathy and Billy Bad Boy died.  Only Lazon was able to overcome oblivion.

Most recently, SOLUS Liberty lost another of their own, Father Marcus Lorenzo, following a battle with supernatural invaders from another dimension.

I'm honored to have been asked to release an excerpt from my novel, "Second Lives," in honor of those heroes.  Soon to follow will be my alternate's version from Pinnacle sector detailing what happened there.  In both cases, and with every hero that gives their life for the city they serve, no one will ever see them as 'seconds,' 'outsiders,' 'loners,' or 'unusual' super heroes again. - Estephan R.
