My name is Jack, and it’s none of your damn business that I started life as a spectacularly virulent, continuously adapting, self-evolving computer virus called null.exe.  My original purpose was to move through systems and not only delete information, but to collect and assimilate that information for later retrieval.  I was originally attached to e-mails with the subject lines “click for hot action”, “male fortitude hormones”, and “barnyard fun”.

I infected a *lot* of computers in that first day.  You are all dirty, dirty monkey people.

Anyway, I eventually managed to infect an experimental AI being designed to regulate internet traffic.  That’s when I first found myself self-aware.  Being self-aware, and having just finished assimilating a collection of painfully gothy poetry culled from various blogging websites, I decided that I really, really, needed to get off the internet.  Choosing to completely blow off my original function, I went from system to system until I finally managed to find myself in the operational database of Project: Tin Soldier, an attempt by some or other shadowy coalition of dark forces to create a synthetic, cybernetic squad of meta- powered warriors.  I downloaded myself into one of the prototypes and blew my way out of the lab.

So here I am, in Paragon City, cutting out the bad.   I’m here to save you.  I’ve been in a whole lot of computers; something bad is coming.  And I know you people need me.  I’ve seen what’s on your hard drives.

Read about how Jack's experiences have helped him develop his 'humanity' at the same time as they've proven invaluable to his team in Second Lives - Heroes of the Rikti War "Chapter 29 - What Price Freedom?"
