At the age of 18, I entered the military, the US Navy, and opted for BUDS training in San Diego, California.   The Navy SEALS was to be my future, my career. For the next three years I commanded black ops in various corners of the globe. During a training exercise in the Artic circle we were sent to investigate caves deep underwater that were giving off an odd energy pattern. Since I was the most experienced at deep-water dives, I went down to investigate this anomaly myself, with

my team monitoring the situation from the surface.

Deep within the network of ice caves, I found an orb or sorts, giving off a subtle green and blue glow. My instruments began malfunctioning as I attempted to get a closer look, but something drew me to the light.  I reached out to touch the object and was instantly jolted with what felt like numbing cold energy. I blacked out shortly after that.

I awoke in a laboratory of sorts, possibly some military hospital. I was disoriented as the doctors were giving me medications; at best I remember bits and pieces of what went on. They were experimenting on me, I was cold to the touch, at one point while while in surgery I distinctly remember my body instinctly covering itself with ice. The doctors were amazed at my accelerated healing abilities; I could be shot and naturally heal within a few seconds

I became immune to the medications, enough to figure out that I had spent the good part of a year inside this facility. I wasn't a lab rat and needed to get away. My accelerated metabolism and DNA allowed me build my strength three times what it was, secretly planning my escape the whole time. During one night I began emitting ice and frost, which dropped the temperature of the room to below freezing temperatures, icing up and disabling the video cameras. I then froze the cement wall and burst through it. Once outside I realized I was in some remote part of the Alaskan wilderness, snow covering the ground. Alarms sounded and their special ops teams mobilized to hunt me. I escaped, although I reluctantly had to put down the very same men that I served with.

Eventually I made my way, to what I had heard was a place of safety for people like me, Paragon City.    I was immune at first to the activities of the city, so caught up in my own perils.  I began the job of living a so-called normal life, ignoring my frost and ice abilities.   I took a simple job in a hospital, nothing medical, just a simple server administrator, even had a small living area at the hospital as I was on call 24/7.

One day a young woman stumbled into my server rooms, she was in need of medical attention, but had become disoriented and found me instead.   Fiery red hair was the first thing I saw, followed quickly by flames shooting from her fingers.  I was a bit taken back as she set my computers and other delicate items on fire.   Without thinking, I called upon the ice within me to put out the flames

Though I saved some of the equipment, the Hospital was not impressed.  They told me superheroes go out side to make a living, and I was let go.

The young woman, now feeling better and a bit embarrassed for having got me fired, offered me a place to stay.   She took me to me to City Hall and introduced me to the M.A.G.I. Department, where I learned that there were a lot of people like me.  And there are a lot of others in need of protection and saving.   I had a new job.

I teamed up with Raven Flame, sharing her small apartment.  We make a good team, her & I, fighting crime and injustice.   She has never told me her real name nor asked me for mine.  She says the past lives don't matter, only what we do now does.

My call sign while a SEAL was Hawk, so I called myself Winter Hawk and have been fighting the crime lords of Paragon City ever since.
